Judyth Ivyle Hahn, 89, of Anamosa, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on June 3, 2016, at the Promise House in Hiawatha.

Judy was born June 21, 1926, in Clayton County, Iowa, to Lawrence and Hertha Ruckdaschel Thoma. She grew up on the family farm near Postville, Iowa, and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Postville.

Judy attended Luana Consolidated Schools for grades 1-12, graduating in 1944. She then got her teaching certificate at Luther College in Decorah. She began her teaching career in Jesup before going to Decorah to teach. While in Decorah, Judy became acquainted with Menar Hahn. They were married June 2, 1951 (65 years ago), in Postville. A year later they moved to Cedar Rapids, where their three children, Patricia, David and Mary, were born. In 1959, the family moved to Anamosa. Once the children were in school, Judy substitute taught until she became a full-time first-grade teacher at St. Patrick's School, a job she loved for 19 years.

Judy was a faithful Christian and active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She belonged to circle, taught Sunday and Bible School, taught children's choir and volunteered.

Judy enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, playing piano and especially her photo albums (all so organized, complete with names, dates and places). She also was active in Cub Scouts, bowling, playing cards, Cornelian Club, hospital auxiliary and Ophelian Club. Judy loved her family, especially her grandchildren, of whom she was so proud.

Bud and Judy loved to camp and started with the family in a station wagon and tent; later came a pop-up camper, followed by a small motorhome. Besides camping, after retirement they took many bus trips. In all, Judy visited 49 of the 50 states, Canada and Mexico. For 20 years, they spent a couple of months each winter as "snowbirds" in Clearwater Beach, Fla., near their daughter, Pat, and her husband, Grady.

Judy is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Grady) Warmack of Tampa, Fla., and Mary (Dale) Flecksing of Cedar Rapids; her daughter-in-law, Shelly Hahn of Coto de Caza, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lauren Lichtenstein, Colby Hahn and Cody and Tonya Boots; her sister, Marge Stansberry; sisters-in-law, Harriet Hahn and Verna Hahn; brother-in-law, Forest Hahn; and special niece, Nancy Bader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Menar (Bud) Hahn; her son, David; and brother, Robert Thoma.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, with interment in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Katie Lowe Lancaster will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
