Judy A. Swore, 87, passed away peacefully October 11, 2025. She has now joined our Eternal Father and her beloved husband. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, December 19, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Details regarding the service will be shared as the time nears.
Judy was born on April 22, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Walter and Margaret Owen. Judy married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Leroy Swore, on October 13, 1956. Their love expanded to include four beautiful children, a son, Scott Swore, of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Julie (Doug) Roe, of The Villages, Florida, Shawn (Ersin) Atay, of Cedar Rapids, Sara (Joe) Baldus of Cedar Rapids; and daughter in law, Renee Swore, of Cedar Rapids. Judy is survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters in law Sandy Swore McCright, Darlene Swore, Sharon Gladwin, and Carol Swore, all of Cedar Rapids; brother in law, Denny Gladwin of Erie, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, step father, Reuben Fencl, and sister, Jackie Pence.
Judy was the absolute best stay at home mom for 34 years of her life. She then continued her caretaking love and worked at Mother Goose and Loving Care Daycares where you could find many of her grandchildren as well. Judy was a 32 year breast cancer survivor and proud to say she was a part of the Especially For You walks 31 of the 35 year history of EFY.
Judy’s interests were crocheting, crafting, baking, shopping, and simply having a good time. It would be rare to find Judy doing any of these things alone as she loved to be around family and friends. You could always count on Judy to point out how nice you looked, and even if she didn’t care for something, gently of course. There was no one that could lift her spirits like her “grands”. She definitely was proud of her role as “Ama / Gram” and all that it entailed. She had a way of letting each of them know they had a special place in her heart.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the entire staff of Stirlingshire of Coralville. Judy moved to Stirlingshire after the passing of her beloved husband, LeRoy, in 2023, and for the past 2.5 years has called this home. It is testament by the stories shared and love shown with the passing of Judy of what this community meant to her. Stirlingshire allowed Judy to live, love, and teach the way “she” desired. Each of them loved and cared for her like she was their own.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
