Judith L. Makinen, 77, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 10, 2016, after
several months of heart-related issues.
Born July 25, 1938, in Ottumwa, Iowa, she was the daughter of Bertha and Carl Kellogg.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Don Makinen; her son, Jeffrey (Cindy) Redmon of Roberts, Wis.; her daughter, Chief Warrant Officer Four
Connie Lynn (Rick) Buckroyd of Indianola; her stepdaughters, Lisa (Jeff) Pearson of Cedar Rapids,
Donna (Dodge Casteel) Schirmer of Marion and
Diana (Chris) Kimmel of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Benjamin (Trisha) Blackmon, Robert (Shannon) Buckroyd, Anne (Kyle) Johnson, Thomas (Hattie) Redmon and
Katherine (David Rogers) Redmon; her stepgrand-children, DJ and Megan Pearson, Kaylyn, Alyssa and Hayley Kimmel, Nick, Allen and Michael Schirmer and Harley Casteel; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joy Rose.
Judy loved her husband, cherished her dog, Ginger, and enjoyed their home in Port St. Lucie, Fla. She loved and took great pride in her children and grand-children.
The family celebrated Judy's life in private remembrances.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her name to the American Heart Association.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Judy during her last few months. Your loving care and concern was very meaningful to all of us.
