Judith Ann "Judy" Sorum, 72, of Atkins, died Friday, June 2, 2017, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Norway. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, near Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is caring for Judy and her arrangements.
Judy was born April 7, 1945, in Decorah, the daughter of Thomas and Ethel (Drew) Urell. She attended St. Patrick's in Waukon. Judy was united in marriage to Howard Sorum on April 18, 1964, in Waukon. She worked at Amana Refrigeration for three years, at Nissen/Universal Gym for 18 years, and at Cedar Rapids Inc./Terex for over 15 years until her retirement. Judy enjoyed dancing, shopping, being a member of the Red Hat Society, and most of all, spending time with her friends and loving family.
Judy is survived by her husband, Howard; children, Deb Hamilton of Atkins, Kathy Spencer of Springville, Annie (J.T.) Young of Virginia Beach, Va., and Karen (Glen) Frese of Watkins; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Brandt of Waukon, John Urell of Waukon, Sarah Drew of Cedar Rapids and Tony (Kate) Urell of Waukon; her sister-in-law, Delores Johnson of Waukon; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father- and mother-in-law, Julius and Martha Sorum; great-granddaughter, Iva Lea; her brothers-in-law, Ralph Brandt, Donnie Drew and Dean Johnson; and sister-in-law, Lela Urell.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in her name.
