Judith “Judy” Ann Smith, 81, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Father Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service. A luncheon will follow at The Kirkwood Room. A private family burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Judy was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Iowa City, the daughter of Theodore and Sarah (Gilroy) Hamilton. She was a 1960 graduate of West Branch High School. On Jan. 29, 1972, Judy married James “Jim” Smith in Rock Island, Ill.
Judy loved all animals, especially Mandy, her Yorkie who was always at her side. She loved to travel with friends, play board games and cards, bingo and try her luck on the slot machine. Judy was crafty and could fix anything on her own. She loved sewing Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, knitting blankets, reupholstering and refurbishing antique furniture and items from her family farm. Judy always drove a truck and loved her Corvette.
Most important to Judy was her family. She was proud to be a stay-at-home mom and always had a homemade meal waiting for her family. Judy will be missed by all those she touched.
Judy is survived by two sons, J.J. (Julie) Smith and their children, Maycee, Sadie and McGavin, of West Branch; and Kurt Smith (Kim Poulsen) of Iowa City; six grandchildren; and extended family.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Sarah; husband, James, and their daughter, Kim; and her siblings, Don (Evelyn) and Betty (Hugh).
