Judith Faye Lee was born Sept. 12, 1947, in Ada, Minn., the daughter of Donald E. and Phyllis (Palm) Lee. She was united in marriage to Allyn R. "Al" Franz on June 25, 1967, in McGregor, Iowa. The couple moved in 1968 to Iowa City, where they began their family and she started her career. She was employed by a number of businesses in the Iowa City area over the years, including Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric, University of Iowa, PIP Printing, ACT, Wave Length and MCI.
Judy dearly enjoyed many things in life, including family vacations, camping at the reservoir and Koch's Lake near Tipton, and bowling and socializing at Plamor Lanes. She supported the Minnesota Vikings and Twins as they were from her home state. But most of all, dearest to her heart was caring and supporting her kids and grandkids in all their activities – from Samuelson Elementary, Meredith Middle School, and Hoover High School in Des Moines to Grant Wood Elementary, South East Junior High and City High School in Iowa City. She also enjoyed cheering on the college teams that her family supported: Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota and NDSU!
Her family includes daughter, Jennifer Peter (Brian) of Des Moines; son, Jeff Franz (Cathe) of Iowa City; grandchildren, Anya, Tommy, Laina and Molly Peter and Andrew and Nile Franz; great-grandchildren, Joey Jacobson and Nadya Caroline Jones; brother, Dewey Lee (Stephanie) of Ada, Minn.; brother in-law, Tom Franz (Gerri) of Cedar Rapids; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, Honey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; her parents and Al's parents.
