Judith A. Cope of Cedar Rapids passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at King of Kings Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Halvorson presiding. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family inurnment: St. John Cemetery, Newhall.
Judy was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, to Meril and Agnes (Senne) Koopman and was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church. "God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
She graduated from Newhall Public School and Professional Business Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. Judy was married to Carl Morgan in 1961. They divorced. She married Stephen Cope on Aug. 16, 1980, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Survivors include her daughter, Diana L. (Daniel) Slaughter of Wausau, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Amy (Jerry) Wright of Denison, Texas, and Jamie Cope of West Des Moines; sister, JoAnne (Merlyn) Schanbacher; sister-in-law, Carolyn Koopman of Marion; nephew, Brian (Kristen) Schanbacher; niece, Chris (Mike) Karr; great-nieces, Shelby, Ellie and Brilynn; great-nephew, Tryce; and Judy's very loved Cairn terrier, Penny.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Andrea Sue Morgan; parents; and brother, James.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
