Judith "Judy" Jane Smith Brookhaus died Friday, June 2, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Iowa City, where there will be a time of visitation beginning at 11 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Judy's memory to the Bird House-Johnson County Hospice Home.

Judy was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Waucoma, Iowa. She and Richard Brookhaus were married on July 12, 1953. Judy Brookhaus attended Iowa State University. She was catalog supervisor at J.C. Penney for several years and then a receptionist for OB/GYN Associates for 16 years. She worked at the polls on election days and was a part-time receptionist at Hills Bank & Trust up until her death.
Judy received the Governor's Volunteer Award for her volunteer work at Old Capitol Museum. She was a member of the Pilot Club of Iowa City and a volunteer at Mercy Iowa City in guest lodging and at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. During the summer months, she volunteered at the education center at Kent Park. Her other volunteer activities have included the Ronald McDonald House, University of Iowa Museum of Art, Iowa City/Coralville Convention Center, The Bird House (Hospice House), Coralville Center for Performing Arts, Coralville Public Library, Salvation Army, Johnson County Historical Society, NAMI-Johnson County walk, Meals On Wheels and the Free Lunch Program.
Judy is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick"; two sons, Rich (Pauline) and Jim; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jodie; a grandson, Jesse; a brother, Richard; and her parents, Howard and Evelyn Smith.
