Judie Phillips, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, May 24, 2025, at her home. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at First Church of the Open Bible in Cedar Rapids, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Harris Holsapple officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Judie was born November 15, 1947, in Henderson, Kentucky, the daughter of Basil and Nellie (Luttrell) Slaton. She graduated with the Class of 1966 from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. Judie married Scott R. Phillips on December 1, 1973, in Cedar Rapids. She owned and operated her own bookkeeping business before working at Von Maur, where she was an “All Star” employee. Even after retiring, she continued doing bookkeeping work. Judie was a longtime member of First Church of the Open Bible. She was a shopper extraordinaire and enjoyed spending her free time browsing garage sales. Judie most enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren and family.
Survivors include her sons, Eric (Stephanie) Phillips of Solon, Iowa, and Thad (Erin) Phillips of Lovilia, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Stephen, Noah, Sophia Grace, Isaac, Quinlin, Emmett, Rylee, and Olivia; siblings, Wanda Church, Gail Finn, Carol (Sherry) Slaton, Pam Slaton, Betty Slaton, and Nick (Carol) Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Nellie Slaton; husband, Scott Phillips; siblings, Earl Slaton, Bobbie Slaton, and Donnie Slaton; her in-laws, Dick and Luanne Phillips; sister-in-law, Dot Slaton; and brothers-in-law, Don Finn and Chuck Church.
