Juanita M. Hotchkiss, 89, a longtime resident of Marion, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at Summit Point Senior Living, Marion. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, conducted by Vicki Standley. Graveside services: 2 p.m., Madison Cemetery, rural Lamont.
Juanita is survived by her children, D'Anne Hotchkiss of Charlotte, N.C., and John (Heather) Hotchkiss of Independence; four grandchildren, Karen (Adrian) Hill of Vinton, Sherry Hoover of Richmond, Va., Randy Strickell of Cedar Rapids and Eric (Charissa) Strickell of Winthrop; four great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Levi Hill and McKynzie and Quinn Strickell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack H.; two infant sons; and siblings, the Rev. John W. Jakway and Carolyn Roepke Brandt.
Juanita was born April 12, 1928, in Aurora, Iowa, the daughter of Charles H. and Faith (Butterworth) Jakway. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1945. On Jan. 24, 1953, Juanita was united in marriage to Jack H. Hotchkiss in Waterloo.
She was a lifetime member of the Aurora Historical Society and a longtime member of Rural Homemakers of America. Juanita was very active at First United Methodist Church in Marion, including teaching Sunday school for 13 years.
A memorial fund has been established in Juanita's memory.
