Juanita Ellen Richman died September 13, 2024 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics due to complications of esophageal disorder.
She was born August 25, 1949 in Mason City to Ralph and Mary Ellen Karlan. She attended Saint Pius Elementary School and Regina High School in Cedar Rapids and Viterbo College in La Crosse, WI. She was married April 1973 to Lynn Richman. She worked at the University of Iowa Hospital as an Audiometrist at the University of Iowa Oakdale Research Campus, a research assistant in Agricultural Health and at the University of Iowa Graduate Admissions office.
Juanita enjoyed travel to many European countries and Australia, and she also enjoyed exercising at the North Dodge Health Club where she met many friends who were quite important in her life and retirement. Juanita and Lynn moved to Brown Deer Cooperative where Juanita made many new friends. She also served on the Aesthetics and Social Committees at the Brown Deer Cooperative, Juanita also enjoyed winter trips to Arizona, Texas, and Florida. Special enjoyment of hers was learning to snorkel in Australia at the Great Barrier Reef and snorkeling at the Caribbean Island of Bonaire for a wedding anniversary trip.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mary Ellen Karlan of Cedar Rapids and her brother Charlie from Amana. She is survived by her husband Lynn of Coralville and son David (Sonya), of Lubbock, TX. She is also survived by brothers Kevin (Diane) Karlan of Ozark, MO, Dennis (Julie) Karlan of Cedar Rapids, and Steve (Jody) Karlan of Tucson, AZ. She’s also survived by two grandchildren, Dylan and Jessica Richman of Lubbock, TX.
