Joyce Susan Reilly, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Sunday, April 1, 2018. Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday prior
to the service at the funeral home.
Those surviving Joyce include her husband of nearly 62 years, Tom; children, Ted (Karen) Reilly and Melissa (Sam Schumacher) Reilly; grandson, Travis; and brother, James (Kathleen) Adams.
Joyce was born Sept. 5, 1935, to George and Ruth (Kurtz) Adams, in Cleveland, Ohio. On April 7, 1956, she married the love of her life, Thomas Francis Reilly Jr., at St. of Joan Arc Catholic Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Her family, gardening and extraordinary care for her home delighted Joyce. Several of her homes were featured in The Gazette's Home section over the years. She also loved her pets and listening to Elton John, ABBA and the Bee Gees.
For over 20 years, Joyce worked in various positions for the Cedar Rapids Community School District. She was instrumental in developing the first computer labs, and served 15 years as secretary to high school principals.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and son, Christopher Michael Reilly.
