Joyce M. Petersen, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 30, 2019, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Brosh Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Joyce was born July 9, 1947, in Belle Plaine, the daughter of Theophille and Rachel (Landuyt) Cleppe. She graduated from Prairie High School, Class of 1965. Joyce was united in marriage to Larry Petersen on March 18, 1966, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Square D for more than 37 years until her retirement. Joyce enjoyed shopping, tending to her flowers, camping and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Larry Petersen; her children, Terry (Dawn) Petersen and Tina Petersen; two granddaughters, Toni (Matt) West and Nicole Petersen; one great-grandson, Kaiden West; siblings, Ron (Tammy) Cleppe and Robert (Debbie) Cleppe; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy (Richard) Schmidt, Scott Ellis (Marlene), Sherri (Duane) Westbrook and Lynette (Cris) Fuller; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepdad, Harry Hodina, sister-in-law, Sandy Frazier and Becky Hewitt; and father- and mother-in-law, Alvin Petersen, Thelma Petersen and Donald Ellis.
