Joyce Nosbish, 81, of Monticello, died Saturday evening, March 29, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where the parish vigil service will begin at 4 p.m.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice (Doug) Kriegel, Coggon and Sheryl Nosbish, Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Alissa (Mitchell) Carson and Cody Kriegel and special friend Rachael Winkler; a great-grandson, Wyatt Carson; two sisters-in-law, Mary Nosbish and Lynda (Pat) O'Connor; special cousins, Judy Kimm, Bernice Vaughn and Charles Peterzalek; and her dog, Maude.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; and two infant sons, Scott Thomas and Mark Allen.
Joyce Elaine Chudlic was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank and Ella Peterzalek Chudlic. Joyce graduated from the Belle Plaine High School and continued her education at Mount Mercy School of Nursing. She started her nursing career at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, in orthopedics. Joyce Chudlic and Dean Nosbish were married April 27, 1957, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple lived in Monticello where Joyce continued nursing at the John McDonald Hospital until its closure. She later retired after working at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Joyce was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was active in the quilting group. Anyone close to Joyce knew she held a special place in her heart for her dogs. She was also an avid collector of recipes and enjoyed not only cooking, but learning new ways while watching cooking shows. Joyce also spent her time gardening, reading and creating cross stitches.
Joyce's family will always remember and would like to extend their gratitude for the excellent care provided by Above and Beyond Home Health, Hiawatha Care Center, Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital 4 Center and Hospice Unit. A special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson and the St. Luke's Hospitalists team.
