JOYCE MENOLA MOUNTS
Mount Vernon
Joyce Menola Mounts, 92, passed away surrounded by her family on July 24, 2017. A private, family memorial service will be held at a later date. Cards may be sent to the Joyce Mounts Family, c/o Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, 1844 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Joyce was born April 1, 1925, to George and Iva (Besaw) Doan, in Whiting, Ind. She married Lloyd Joseph "Joe" Mounts on Aug. 31, 1945, and, after a few adventures throughout the country, settled in Mount Vernon. Joyce was the proud mother of her six children, Susan Fisher, Joanne (Dan) Roddewig, Floyd Mounts, Charlotte Mounts, Frances Mounts and Patricia Woods. Joyce was a stay-at-home mother and recognized as "Mother of the Year" in 1966.
Joyce, often referred to as "Pretty Lady," left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Known for her exceptional baking skills, her specialty being pineapple upside down cake and popcorn balls, made especially for Halloween. She was often found bringing her confections to the fair. This was a talent she developed with her grand- and great-grandchildren. In her retirement, she could be found leading a group of friends to the area casinos in her signature pink car. She derived much glee in living up to her April Fools' birthdate and was always the life of the party.
Joyce is survived by her children; grandchildren, Stephanie Fisher, Kent (Stephanie) Fisher, Janet (Wes) Fisher, James Roddewig, Adam (Brandi) Roddewig, Jennifer (Joe) Lanum, Stephen Mounts, Gina Otvos, Scott Carpenter, Sarah (Lucas) Woods and Lynn (Derek) Woods; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma Lynch and Emalyn (Victor) Wixom; and many extended family members and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd "Joe" Mounts; granddaughter, Holly Joyce Roddewig; and brother, Robert Doan.
Please share your support and memories with Joyce's family on her tribute wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under Obituaries.
