JOYCE DARLENE MIDDLETON
Cedar Rapids
Joyce Darlene Middleton, 83, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at Good Shepherd Villa, Mesa, Ariz., where she resided. Her children and some of her grandchildren were at her side preceding her death.
Joyce was born on Nov. 5, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Virgil A Fuller and Opal Root.
She is survived by her children, Steven Andrews (Wanda), Gloria Odekirk (Kent) of Mesa, Ariz., and Scott Middleton (Shannon) of St Louis, Mo.; stepson, Raymond Middleton (Ruth Ann) of Marietta, Ga.; stepdaughter, Kathy Rogers of Cedar Rapids; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Norma Kenyon of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Evelyn Colbert of Cedar Rapids.
She and Cecil W. Middleton were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1964, until his death. She was a member of the Eastern Star Organization for many years. She finished the eighth grade in Solon and was extremely proud when she earned her GED at the age of 50. She was also proud that she was employed at the Masonic Library in Cedar Rapids for more than three years. She went to church services at the chapel on the property of Good Shepherd Villa in Mesa. She was passionate in working on genealogy and had completed her family's side clear back to the 1600s. She loved piano music, crocheting, dancing and learning about her computer. She must have went through three or four, but she did so until she got it. She played the piano and, of course, participated in many activities at the care center, especially card games, musical shows and bingo, B13 was her favorite number.
Preceded in death were her husband, Cecil W. Middleton; her son, Gary Andrews; daughter, Patricia (Trish) Kay Andrews; grandson, Ben Middleton; great-grandson, Zane William Craig; stepdaughters, Marion Striegel and Bernice Kohl; her parents; grandparents; sisters, Lyda Cornelius, Arlene Raker and Virginia Preuss; brother, Donald Fuller; nephew, Wayne Fuller; and other siblings from Minnesota.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
