Joyce McMaster, age 87, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 7, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to United Way, or to your local hospice organization. Joyce Lois McMaster was born April 9, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Mae (Campbell) Hevern. She graduated from City High School in 1954. On February 20, 1960, Joyce was united in marriage to Gerald L. McMaster at the First Presbyterian Church (Old Brick) in Iowa City. Joyce worked at Northwestern Bell for ten years. After that she became the first employee of the University of Iowa Phone Service, where she worked for more than thirty-two years.
Joyce was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She held football season tickets for more than forty years and basketball season tickets for nearly sixty. Joyce traveled to many Iowa football bowl games over the years, and frequently travelled to Branson, Missouri, where she would take in the shows and browse various shops. She also enjoyed camping, most recently at Hidden River Campgrounds near Tipton, Iowa. Joyce had a deep fondness for Huskie dogs and will be missed dearly by her Huskie, Frosty.
Her family includes her son, Scott (Cathy) McMaster; grandchildren, Brittany McMaster, Colton (Vanessa) McMaster and their children; Ainsley McMaster, Xander VanGerpen, and Michael Harper, and MacKenzie (Jordan) Tortorich and their children; River and Walker Tortorich; and by her loyal companion Frosty.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, and by her parents.
