Joyce E. Owens Lumbus, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be held at Anderson Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Joyce Elaine was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Howard E. and Lorna M. (Baker) Hanson. She attended Palo High School. She was united in marriage to Raymond Owens in October 1955. Ray died in September 1974. Joyce was later united in marriage to George Lumbus on Nov. 7, 1992, in Cedar Rapids. Joyce worked at Rockwell Collins for over 17 years, as well as various waitressing jobs at local restaurants.
Joyce was a longtime member of the American Legion. She enjoyed playing cards, cross-stitch, embroidery, watching wrestling and the Cubs, as well as spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
Joyce is survived by her son, Raymond Owens Jr. of Rockford, Ill.; three grandchildren, Aaron Owens of Rockford, Melinda (Darin) Ludlum of Beloit, Wis., and Jessica (Cole) Goodenow of Tipton; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Connor, Andy, Lucy, Sophie, Claire, Rosie and Ivy; her sisters, Valeta (Gene) Bray of Anamosa and Betty Bemer of Cedar Rapids; her brothers, Richard (Sandy) Hanson and David Hanson, both of Cedar Rapids; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and her brothers, Ronald and Howard "Butch" Hanson Jr.
