Joyce E. Krause, 87, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City.

Joyce Elaine Sterling was born April 1, 1928, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Francis M. and Cora Mae (Ferguson) Sterling. Following graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames. In June 1948, she married Blaine Nelson. They had two daughters. Sixteen years later they divorced which would lead to Joyce going back to school to earn her degree in dietetics. Years later while in Algona, she met and married Donald Krause on Aug. 4, 1973. For many of their earlier years together, they lived in various parts of the country as a result of their careers. She was employed as a registered dietitian at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for several years before retiring. Joyce was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and also the American Dietetic Association.

Her family includes her husband, Don; her daughters, Lori Bohardt (Andy) and Beth Conway (Timothy); grandchildren, Jeremy Bohardt, Nathan Bohardt, Christopher Bohardt, Meghan Conway, Abby Conway and Barley Conway; stepsons, Randy Krause (Vicky) and Tom Krause (Molly); stepgrandchildren, Gabe Krause, Josie Krause, Libby Krause, Emily Krause, Abram Krause, Justin Krause, Noah Krause and Adam Krause; and sister- and brother-in-law, Faye and Glenn Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
