Joyce (King) Barta,78, of Solon, passed away on April 13, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 11, 1946, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Edna King. She graduated from Brooklyn High School. Joyce was united in marriage to Richard Barta on May 10, 1968 in Brooklyn. She loved cooking for family and friends, sewing, gardening, keeping the deer away from her flowers, going on adventures (boating, snowmobiling, and traveling) with family and friends. She always made everyone welcome with her love. Her passion for family, especially her grandchildren, will be her legacy. Joyce was one of the original founders of the Solon Book Club. She was always active in the church giving her time to help others and was a council member of St. Mary’s Church for several years. She was also very active with the Solon Food Pantry.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Richard of Solon; her children Stacey Kile (Craig) of Solon, son Greg Barta (Jaime) of Apex, North Carolina, Eric Barta (Sheri) of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren, Haley, Jessica, Amber, Allison, Kennedy, Austin and Gavin; siblings include Pat Smith, Bill King, Don King. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy Divine, brothers Dick King and Bob King.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Luncheon will follow.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Solon Community Food Pantry.
