JOYCE D. (STUTZMAN) SCHLABACH

A Celebration of Life for Joyce D. (Stutzman) Schlabach, 86, will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Joyce Darlene Schlabach was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly on Feb. 15, 2022, at age 86 in Colorado Springs, Colo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will go to the family to be used for dementia research.
She was born in Milford, Neb., to Clayton and Virgie Stutzman on June 15, 1935. The family moved to Colorado and Joyce was joined by seven brothers and sisters, often traveling back to the family farm in Nebraska. She met her husband, Alvin, in Colorado Springs, married in 1955, and moved to Parnell, Iowa. They had four children, Douglas, Christine, Mary and William, and had a happy full life where she worked for the university and was involved in the church. They loved to travel and visit with family. She later moved back to Colorado Springs and was surrounded by love and family, spending days with her brothers, laughing, eating, and generally being "fat and sassy."
She is survived by her sisters Virginia and Erla; her children, Christine, Mary and Bill; daughters-in-law, Lisa and Marquita; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin ('07); and son, Douglas ('18 ).
