Joyce E. Bontrager, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. A Celebration of Life service will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 1, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service.
A memorial fund has been established.

Joyce Elaine Hormel was born July 25, 1945, the daughter of William B. and Betty Campbell Hormel. She attended Cedarville Country School, south of Atalissa, until eighth grade and was graduated from West Liberty High School in 1963. She attended beauty school in Iowa City and worked as a beautician all her life. She married Arlie McNeal in 1966 and later divorced; within that union she had two sons, Jeffery and Kevin. She later married Larry Bontrager, but was soon after divorced.
In her younger years, she enjoyed raising purebred kittens. She enjoyed gardening, camping and her pride and joy was her many cats.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Jeffery McNeal of West Liberty and Kevin McNeal of Evansville, Wis.; four grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Sean and Gavin; and a sister, Beverly (Norman) Kuddes of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
