Joyce Bellamy, 75, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family. Services will be on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. with visitation starting an hour prior, all held at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids. A private family entombment will follow at Cedar Memorial Mausoleum.
Joyce was born on July 26, 1940, to George and Marian Boyer in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a 1958 graduate of Des Moines Roosevelt High School. She attended William Woods College, Fulton, Mo.
Joyce married Jim Bellamy on Aug. 23, 1959, in Des Moines. She worked at Square D in Cedar Rapids until moving to Schaller, Iowa. After raising their three children, Joyce attended Kirkwood Community College, graduating with honors. Joyce worked many years at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, where she treated all of her patients and coworkers with loving care. After retirement, Joyce continued to support the medical community, working with nursing students at Kirkwood Community College.
Many of her hobbies included reading, baking, PEO group and ringing her cowbell at football games. Joyce was also a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She truly enjoyed the music and traditions of the church.
Left to cherish Joyce's memory are her husband of 56 years, Jim Bellamy; children, Christopher Bellamy of Cedar Rapids and Jonathan (Kristen) Bellamy of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Katy, Aaron, Alex, Ashley, Krysta and Ben; a brother, Art (Pete) Boyer; nephew, David (Deborah) Boyer; and niece, Kristin (Mark) Gahm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judy; and daughter, Amy.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance.
