Joyce Adam, 78, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Rockford, Ill., peacefully passed away Dec. 8, 2015, at Holten Nursing Home in Elkhorn, Wis. The daughter of Ward J. Twitty and Myrtle (Greenlee) Twitty, Joyce was born in Rock Island, Ill..
She is survived by daughters, Laura Hard of Cedar Rapids, Donna Reau of Salem, Wis., and Debbie Rocarek of Cedar Rapids.
Her son, Michael Bender of Michigan, died in 2009.
Besides her three daughters, Joyce is also survived by her brothers, Bill Twitty of Milan, Ill., and Jerry Twitty of Aravada, Colo., and sisters, Naomia Duncan of St. Louis, Mo., and Jeannette Booth of Cedar Rapids. Joyce had seven grandchildren including, Michele Foreman, Melissa Bender, Nathan Freie, Alisha Palmer Bender, Rachel Rocarek, Ricky Hard and Andrew Langford; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Joyce grew up in Rock Island, Ill., and attended high schools there. In Cedar Rapids, Joyce worked for Skogman Realty and the Elks Club. She worked as a realtor in the Rockford, Ill., area for a number of years and she dearly loved her profession.
Joyce married Donald Bender in 1955, in Rock Island, Ill. They had four children. They later divorced and the family moved to Cedar Rapids.
In 1978, Joyce married Paul Margretz. He died in 1987. She then married Joseph Adam in 1992. He died in 2010.
Their church, the Heartland Community Church, was a source and comfort for them. Joyce and her husband, Joe Adam, enjoyed their many friends and their many years in a Rockford dance club. One of their dancing highlights was performing in the Christmas special at the Coronado Performing Arts Center in Rockford in 1995. Joyce and Joe waltzed gracefully on stage as well as in ballrooms. Joyce is now reunited and dancing in the sky with her beloved, Joe.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date per Joyce's request.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Diabetes Association or to Elkhorn, Wis., Rainbow Hospice.
The family would like the thank caregivers at Holten Nursing Home and Rainbow Hospice for their effort and care.
If Joyce could speak she would say to you, "Make time for the I love yous, the I appreciate yous, the hugs and please stretch out all the good moments. Leave NO room for regrets of kind words left unsaid. Say them daily. Leave footprints of love and kindness wherever you go."
