Joy “Kay” Slouha, 73, of Newhall, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022. Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the Rev. Steven W. Rempfer officiating. Burial: to take place at a later date. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Teahen Funeral Home.
Kay is survived by her son, Kurt (Denae) Slouha of Newhall; six grandchildren, Caleb of Cedar Rapids, Lauren (Jade) of Waterloo, Delaynee, Sloane, Rinley and Elsie of Newhall; sister, Sue (Lynn) Fisher of Sigourney; sister-in-law, Georgette Alstadt of Ozark, Mo.; sister-in-law, Wendy (Dean) Horner of Amana; and many nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney R. Slouha, in 2003.
Kay was born on Oct. 26, 1949, daughter of Elver and Phyllis (Meier) Strong in Waterloo, Iowa. She contracted polio at a young age and was a polio survivor. She graduated from Sigourney High School. She married Rodney (Rod) Slouha on Nov. 9, 1973. Kay worked at Kirkwood Community College her entire career until retirement.
Kay’s pride and joy were her six grandchildren. She often said the grandkids were what kept her going. Grandma Kay was always available to attend one of their events, call or text and spend time with all her grandkids and granddogs.
Kay never met a stranger as everyone she met quickly became a close friend. Kay always took the time to talk to everyone and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Newhall Fire & EMS Foundation or Central Lutheran School, Newhall, Iowa, where all six of her grandchildren attended.
