Joy Denise Daker Mote, 82, of Delhi, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the Spring of 2023. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is assisting the family.
Joy was born Sept. 5, 1940, in Aurora, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Minnie (Knudson) Daker. She graduated from Wilson High School, Class of 1957, and went on to obtain a health administration degree from Des Moines Area Community College. Joy was united in marriage to James Mote on Oct. 12, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. Together, Joy and James owned and operated Mote Dance Studio and Joy’s Dance Shoe Boutique. Joy worked as the health administrator for nursing homes in Clarence, Solon and Manchester, Iowa, until her retirement in 2011.
She leaves behind her children, Jill Mote, Jay (Mary) Mote and Jon (Katie) Mote; four granddaughters, Alexandra, Mia, Riley and Daisy; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Mote; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and colleagues.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Edward Mote; her parents, Harold and Minnie Daker; brothers, Daryl Daker and his wife, Francine, Marlin Daker and his wife, Margaret; in-laws, Harold and Hazel Mote; and sister-in-law, Barbara Krouse and her husband, Wallace.
