JOSEPH SZERTICS

Joseph Szertics, a longtime resident of Iowa City, died Sept. 15, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Joseph was born in Hungary on May 6, 1925. He came to the U.S. in 1962, first as a professor of Spanish at the University of Buffalo, N.Y., then in Bowling Green, Ohio, and finally he became professor emeritus of Spanish literature at the University of Iowa, where he taught for over 30 years.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Claire; and three grandchildren, Tom (age 20), Gabrielle (age 20) and Lucy (age 13), who live in France.
The family would like to thank Oaknoll Residence and its staff, as well as Dr. Richard Larew, for their care and support.
Family services have been held through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
