Joseph "Pep" John Hostak, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at Evergreen III. As per Joe's wishes, family services will be private. Private inurnment will be in Czech National Cemetery.
Joseph was born May 4, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Paul and Anna Hostak. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Joe was united in marriage to Helen Getlin on Oct. 26, 1950, at All Saints Catholic Church. Joe worked as a fireman for the city of Cedar Rapids, being stationed at B Avenue NE and retiring from the Airport Fire Station. He enjoyed golfing, watching Iowa women's basketball and the Cubs, and most of all spending time with his friends and family.
Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, George and Paul Hostak; and his sister, Agnes Pospishil.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in his name.
