Joseph J. Moore, 78, of Hiawatha, passed away with his family at his side on Oct. 7, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1350 Lyndhurst Dr., Hiawatha. There will be one hour visitation before the service starting at 9 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be at a later date.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Annette; five children, Jeff (Jane) Moore, Tony Moore, Randy (Jeanette) Moore, Jackie (Eric) Mason and Christine Van Horbeck; 11 grandchildren, Joseph Moore, Kendall (Nick) Baker, Chris Moore, Jodi Moore, Houston Moore, Jatanna Moore, Avery Mason, Allie Mason, London Van Horbeck, Landon Moore and Chelesa Moore; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Burton Moore; and a sister, Bea Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Josephine Moore; grandson, Conner Mason; and seven siblings.
He was born Dec. 18, 1938, to James and Josephine Moore of Stanley, Iowa. Joe worked for Rockwell Collins for 38 years and farmed on the side with his friend and neighbor, Jerry Seifried. Joe was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. He was a devoted father and supported his children in all their activities. He enjoyed being a snowbird every year in Texas and listening to his wife sing.
Memorials may be made on his behalf to the Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, Iowa.
