The Rev. Joseph Emmet McGuire, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center Hallmar in Cedar Rapids.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton with Archbishop Michael Jackels as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before Mass. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West.
Joseph was born March 13, 1932, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Frank and Loretta McGuire. He graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque in 1952. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955. He graduated from Loras College in 1961 and attended Mount St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque. He was ordained in 1965.
Father McGuire served as parish priest at several parishes, the last being St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton, retiring in 2007. He also was hospital chaplain at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for 17 years.
He is survived by one brother, David (Ruth) McGuire of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mary Ann McGuire of Minneapolis and Irene Jasper of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Hutflus.
Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home of Vinton is caring for the Rev. McGuire and his family.
