Joseph E. McEnany, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at his home following a cancer battle. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Joe was born March 12, 1951, the son of Donald and Louise (Lyness) McEnany of Ryan, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Ryan, graduated from West Delaware Schools in 1970, and then served in Korea for the U.S. Army. He had owned and operated a carpentry business that specialized in building and remodeling fast food restaurants for over 30 years.
Joe traveled often for work and enjoyed spending his leisure time just hanging out at home with his grandchildren and golfing with his siblings. He enjoyed watching Zach Johnson golf and watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Hawkeyes play football. He also enjoyed an occasional game of blackjack at the local casinos, shooting pool and working in the yard.
Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pat (McGraw); sons, JP and Matt (Kristi) McEnany, and grandchildren, Keelan and Kinsley McEnany, all of Cedar Rapids. He also is survived by five brothers, Mike (Bev) McEnany of Walker, Kenny McEnany of Cedar Rapids, Sean (Pam) McEnany of Manchester, Frank McEnany of Manchester and Kevin (Tara) McEnany of Independence; four sisters, Lynette (Steve) Ward of Ryan, Mary Pat (Brian) Kucera of Cedar Rapids, Marcia (Randy) Fergesen of Ryan and Judy Wendling of Earlville; and 15 nieces and nephews. His surviving in-laws include Mike McGraw of Story City, Kelley McGraw of Caledonia, Minn., and Colleen Regan of Littleton, Colo.; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law.
