Joseph F. Krivanek, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at his farm following a long illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Shueyville United Methodist Church by Pastors Craig Peters and Stasia Fine. Burial: Shueyville Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids, from 4 until 7 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family on Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Joseph was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Johnson County, the son of Joe and Mary (Louvar) Krivanek. He attended school at Jefferson No. 5 along the reservoir. After the 8th grade, he then went to Shueyville High School, where he graduated in 1941. On Sept. 1, 1948, he married Dorothy Ann Barta, the girl next door. He worked hard on the family farm, milking cows for 35 years.
Joe loved gardening, fishing and car racing. He wanted to be remembered as just an ordinary farmer with a strong work ethic.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 12 children: Joe (Teresa) Krivanek, Mary Diehl, Francis (Myrna) Krivanek, Robert Krivanek and Tim Edwards, Rosanne (Mark) Fett, David (Debby) Krivanek, Anne (Curt) Duffield, Theresa (Randy) Wall, Tom Krivanek, Jennifer (Greg) Grena, Tina (Jim) Kelso and Tony (Carla) Krivanek; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and very dear friends, Glenn and Frances Buresh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and son-in-law, David Diehl.
