Joseph "Joe" Lynn Balvin Sr., 63, of Elberon, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, surrounded by family.
Joe was born Sept. 26, 1957, the son of Leonard and Florence (Kalinay) Balvin. He would later own his own truck, Joe Balvin Trucking, which he operated for many years before selling his truck and going to work for Manatts Inc., and later InRoads Paving, where he continued to work until just recently. On Sept. 27, 1980, he was married to Colleen Kutchanek at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together they lived in Elberon, where they raised their daughter and son.
Joe enjoyed cruising in his Corvette, working on his '72 Chevy pickup truck with his family, mud running on the weekends, and polishing "his trucks." He took pride in driving clean vehicles.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Colleen of Elberon; daughter, Melynda (Tony) Gropper of Chelsea; grandchildren, the three boys and a girl, Ty, Colton, Kayson and Fallyn; parents, Leonard and Florence Balvin of Marshalltown; siblings, Larry (Janet) Balvin of Chelsea, Ellen (Tom) Upah of Chelsea, Randy (Diane) Balvin of Brooklyn, Jamie (Paul) Kupka of Chelsea, Jerry (Val) Balvin of Chelsea, Dan Balvin of Belle Plaine, Sally (Steve "Boat") Slaven of Chelsea, Jason (Kelly) Balvin of Chelsea and Aaron (Melissa) Balvin of Chelsea; and many more loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his son, J.J. Balvin (2001); brother, Steve Balvin (1991), nephew, Erik Upah (2001); and his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, with Father Greg Bahl and Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelsea.
