Joseph "Joe" Carpenter, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in the Hospice Unit, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Certified Celebrant, Amy Hart will officiate. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Joe, under "photos and videos," starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. Burial will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga, Iowa.
Joe was born July 6, 1946, in Wadena, Iowa, the son of Earl Carpenter and Jennie (Schippers) Couser. He graduated from Volga High School. Joe married Pam Way on Sept. 6, 1969 in Volga. The couple was married 49 years until Pam's passing. He was a quality control manager at Weyerhaeuser Paper Company for 36 years until his retirement. Joe belonged to the Hawkeye Hook Setters and was a proud member of the NRA. He was an avid gun and weapons enthusiast and coin collector. He enjoyed fishing and working on his vehicles. Joe liked watching planes take off and land and even began working on obtaining his pilot's license. Joe enjoyed a lot of things in life, but above all, he loved his grandkids.
Joe is survived by his son, Terry (Laura) Carpenter; daughter, Tracy (Dean) Panos; grandchildren, twins-Quentin and Alex Carpenter, Ethan Kesterson and Ainsley Panos; siblings, Joyce De Cook Hammar, Bob (Betty) De Cook, Chuck (Gloria) De Cook and Virginia (Denny) Roth; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Pam, in 2018.
