Joe "Big Sexy" (given this nickname because he had such a big heart) Heusner, son of Dan Heusner and Cynthia (Mabeus) Heusner-Voss, was born Sept. 19, 1972, in Oxnard, Calif. He moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he attended the Cedar Rapids community school system. He later moved to Waterloo, N.Y., where he graduated in 1991. Following high school, he moved back to Iowa, where he worked for Ty-Co Painting. Joe and his family lived in several other states before calling Iowa his official home in 2005.
Joe was a professional painter, who was subcontracted to do many different types of painting jobs. Most recently Joe and his fiancee, Jess, had become operators of JD's Super Dogs, a hot dog stand in Belle Plaine.
He enjoyed woodworking and making different crafts. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and listening to music. He was a former member of Ducks Unlimited.
Joe is survived by his mother, Cindy Voss of Belle Plaine; children, Daniel Heusner, Christopher Heusner and Samantha Heusner, all of Belle Plaine; fiancee, Jessica Geary of Belle Plaine; grandmother, Norma Mabeus of Ottumwa; ex-wife, Dawn Heusner-Davis of Belle Plaine; and many more loving family and friends.
