Joseph Harrison Cooper, age 92, formerly of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025. He was born on November 27, 1932, to Myrle and Cecil Cooper.
Joe grew up in Coggon, Iowa, where he met the love of his life in the 8th grade. He and Darlene Sisler were married on June 21, 1953. Joe attended Iowa State University on a ROTC scholarship. Following his graduation, he began a two-year tour aboard the USS Saint Paul, based out of Yokosuka, Japan. Following his active duty in the Navy, Joe began a successful career in the meat and food industry and continued to serve his country in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Captain.
Joe would tell you that he lived a full, joyful life filled with precious family, treasured friends, wonderful memories, and an abundance of God’s blessings.
Joe is preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, and three sisters. He is survived by daughters Stephanie (Greg) Loeschke and Cynthia Wintrick, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held for Joe at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 A.M, followed by a committal service for Joe and Darlene with Military Honors.
