Joseph Leo Dwyer Jr., 83, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, in Panama City Beach, Fla. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Rock Island National Cemetery.
Joseph is survived by his lifelong partner, Ansun Opfer of Cedar Rapids; brother, John Dwyer of Billerica, Mass.; and sister, Catherine (Leonard) Buckland of Billerica.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joseph was born on July 16, 1932, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of Joseph and Mary (Dunn) Dwyer Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1953. Joseph was a lieutenant detective on the police force in Boston, Mass., for 20 years and later worked as a professor in criminal justice at Mount Mercy College for 12 years. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and walking. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs fan.
