JOSEPH DOYLE
Swisher
Joseph P. Doyle, 78, of Swisher, passed away, from effects of cancer, peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Hallmar Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Services to be scheduled for a later date. Joe grew up on the family farm in Toledo, Iowa, and graduated from Toledo High School in 1955. He then worked in the Iowa area for two years and enlisted in the Army serving for six years as a reservist. Joe attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1963 with a degree in mechanical engineering. In 1963, Joe moved to Madison, Wis., where he worked as an engineer for Gisholt Machine. In 1971, he moved to Steamboat Springs, Colo., to work and to build homes. Joe became an excellent skier, hiked the mountains and in general loved the outdoors. In 1997, Joe moved back to Iowa where he owned and operated a business in Cedar Rapids, until retiring in 2012. A special recognition to Becki Nelson who assisted Joe in managing his successful business venture.
Joe was a caring individual always offering a helping hand to those in need. He was well known for his fondness for abandoned and abused dogs. Over his life he devoted much attention to making life easier for animals in need. His nephews and nieces were significant in his life and to all 19 of them a favorite uncle.
Joe is survived by five siblings, Richard Doyle (Carolee), Toledo, Iowa, Sandra Zmolek (Dennis), Marshalltown, Gene Doyle (Sandra), Cedar Falls, Mary Doyle, Buellton, Calif., and Mark Doyle (Alice) Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 19 nieces and nephews; an aunt, Edna Doyle, Toledo; many cousins; and his two dogs, Oreo and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gertrude Doyle.
Joe will be greatly missed as he had a way of being well liked by those he knew and became a good friend to many. He made numerous lifelong friendships in his years living in Colorado and Wisconsin.
Remembrances can be given to the Humane Society.
