Joseph Benzer, 96 of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 30, 2024. Services: 10 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Nick March. Burial: St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday at the church after 9 a.m.
Joseph is survived by his daughters, Deb (Jeff) Mau, of Ankeny, Susan (Mark) King, of Cedar Rapids, and Ann (Mark) Robinson, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Zach (Jessi) Mau, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, Cailie Mau (Kapil Chaudhary) of Miami, Florida, JP King, Mitch King, Jake Robinson, and Brody Robinson, all of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Mau, Sienna Mau, and Sullivan Mau, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and Sofie Chaudhary, of Miami, Florida; brother, Bob (JoAnn) Benzer, of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, his parents Florence and Joseph Benzer and his sister Florence Ann Benzer.
Joseph was born on March 18, 1928, son of Joseph and Florence (Baule) Benzer, in Dubuque. He married the love of his life, Dorothy McGuire on October 4, 1952, in Dubuque. He served in the Army for 2 years. He worked as an outside salesman for Sherwin Williams Paint Company, he retired at 62, after 35 years with Sherwin Williams
Joseph was a charter member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church, he and Dorothy spent many winters in the Hawaiian Islands. They loved playing tennis, jogging, biking, golfing and just being together. Many people remember Joe and Dorothy jogging down 1st Avenue together. He loved spending time with Dorothy, his three daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was always the life of the party and had a great smile and infectious laugh. He died at 96 after a wonderful and blessed life.
Thank you to many special neighbors and friends who filled his days with love and laughter and many games of Rummikub which he enjoyed when he won.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Church or Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Joseph’s name.
