Jorgensen, Arlene D.
Arlene D. Jorgensen, 89, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, atJackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa. A celebration of Arlene's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, where visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Arlene Dorothy Luett was born May 27, 1923, in Lost Nation, Iowa, the sixth of nine children born to Louis and Amanda (Mohr) Luett.She grew up in the Maquoketa area and attended the Baldwin schools. She married Alvin N. Jorgensen on June 9, 1941, in Maquoketa.He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 2000.
Arlene and her husband Alvin had co-owned and operated Jorgensen and Son Dairy in Maquoketa for eight years.She then worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for a brief time before becoming a baker at the Super Valu Market in Maquoketa.The first five years she spent slicing and wrapping baked goods.Then her boss, Mel Krohn, promoted her to head baker and she continued working there for five more years, until she developed cancer in 1974.After that she was content to stay at home and spend time with her family.
Arlene enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidery, bowling and traveling.She also enjoyed playing cards, especially, euchre, solitaire and gin rummy.
She loved her family and cherished time spent with them.
Arlene is survived by her children, Garry (Lucinda) Jorgensen of Bellevue, Linda (Jerry) McCoy of Cedar Rapids and Bonnie (Paul) Petrik of Fairfax; twin brothers, Frederick Luett of Clinton and Franklin (Judy) Luett of Joplin, Mo.; a sister, Evelyn McClain of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; three grandchildren, Michael (Sandra) McCoy, Kelly (Joe) Smith and Stephanie (Jeff) Miller; and five great-grandchildren, Connor and Victoria McCoy, Marissa and Miranda Smith, and Jacob Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Robert, Leroy, Elmer and Gilbert; and a sister, Mildred.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Arlene D. Jorgensen Memorial Fund has been established.
