Jons, George
Memorial services for George Jons, 69, of Lake Striker, Texas, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tyler, Texas, with Pastor Art Hill officiating. Private burial will be at Still Waters Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville, Texas. Mr. Jons passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in Tyler.
He was born July 31, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mr. Jons was a service manager for automotive repair and a master mechanic for Ford and General Motors. He was a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, a former volunteer fireman, scout leader, elder, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon C. and Marion (Lentz) Jons; brothers, Richard, Vernon and Allen Jons; and grandson, Brandon.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Jons of Lake Striker; four sons, Steve Jons and wife Robin of Fredericksburg, George Jons Jr. and wife Dana of Arlington, Texas,Jeffrey Jons and wife Michelle of Newcastle, Wyo., and Chad Jons of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister, Bonnie Mathews of La Porte City; six grandchildren, Kyle, Kaleena, Andrew, Seth, Joshua and Channing; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Jons, Seth Jons, Kyle Jons, Joshua Jons, Channing Jons and Mark Kelley.
