Jones, William G. Sr.
William G. Jones Sr., 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday afternoon, April 24, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2204 26th St. NW, with Brother Andy Huntsman officiating. Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East is in charge of arrangements.
William is survived by sons, William Jr. and Brian Jones; daughter, Elida “Dee” Hollopeter, all of Cedar Rapids; brother, John Jones, Brainard, Minn.; sisters, Pauline Nervig, Simi Valley, Calif., and Lola Erickson, Story City; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iola; parents, Paul and Josephine Elida (Sunnoe) Jones; and a brother, Jack.
William was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Story City, and had lived in Cedar Rapids for many years. He married Iola M. Robertson on Nov. 12, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, and she died July 25, 2010. William had worked at Penick and Ford Co. and for many years at the Nissen Corp. building scoreboards. In retirement, he worked part-time for Brothers 3 Manufactured Homes. William was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Cedar Valley Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
William's family wishes to thank Hospice of Mercy for the gentle and loving care provided to him.
