Jones, Opal Olive
Opal Olive Jones, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Rene (Rick) Saylor of Cedar Rapids and Cynthia (Jimmy) Whigham of Scottsboro, Ala.; one son, Robert (Amy) Jones of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Beatrice Short, Fern Netolicky and Christine Vorba; and one brother, Orville Bell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert Jones Jr.; and a granddaughter, Hannah.
Opal Olive Jones was born Sept. 18, 1937, the daughter of Raymond and Julia (Young) Bell. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Jones Jr. on Oct. 6, 1956. Throughout the years Opal enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, quilting, crafts, and her church.
Opal will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.
