Larry L. Jones, 78, of Olin, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A remembrance service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Olin Community United Methodist Church in Olin. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lahey Funeral Home in Olin.
Larry was born on May 23, 1935, in Hale, to Clifford and Alvena (Ahrendsen) Jones. Larry graduated from Olin High School in 1952. He farmed north of Olin and had dairy cows for over 35 years.
He was a member of the Olin Community United Methodist Church, where he was very involved. He was a former 4-H member and Olin school board member. Larry was on the Jones County ASCS committee for several years as well as a Madison Township trustee. He loved living on the farm and had a great love for animals. He saw the good in everything and everyone. Larry never knew a stranger and enjoyed visiting.
Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; their three children, Julie (Brad) Flory of Pella, Jolene (Terry) Crane of Moscow and Randy (Sheri) Jones of Anamosa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hilma Wilcox of Florida and JoAnne LeGrand of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard.
Memorials may be given to the Olin Ambulance.
