Jones, Kathleen Ann
Kathleen Ann Jones, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 9, 2012, in Mercy Hallmar. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery in Williamsburg. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Kathleen was born Oct. 27, 1922, the sixth of eight children, at home in Williamsburg, Iowa, to Osborne E. and Honora Dunn Jones. She graduated from Williamsburg Public School in 1940 and attended Clarke University, Dubuque, Iowa, for two years. She retired from Collins Radio Co. and the Cedar Rapids Community School Board office.
Kathleen is survived by her sisters, Charlotte (Michael) Mack of Waterloo and Honore Steimel of Charles City; sister-in-law, Kathryn Belger Jones of Williamsburg; 22 nieces and nephews; and many great-grandnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Willard D. Jones, R. Winston Jones, Harold E. Jones and J. Russell Jones; a sister, Margaret Wellman; and two nephews.
Kathleen cared for her parents. She enjoyed her family in all celebrations and activities. Genealogy was a life interest resulting in books with families traced backed, beginning with great-grandparents arriving in the United States. She was proud of the town of Williamsburg being named after her great-grandparents, Ann and Richard Williams. Kathleen volunteered for many years, enjoyed her crafts, music and knitted 35 baby ponchos and sweaters. She also enjoyed touring many foreign countries always with camera in hand.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson and the oncology department, Mercy-Cedar Rapids Hall Perrine Center, where memorials may be directed.
