Jones, Jones
Katherine I. Jones, 81, of West Union, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wis. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. Family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Katherine was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Charles and Irene (Lenius) Smith. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1947 and from Wartburg College in 1951. She taught school at West Union High School, Northeast Iowa Community College, served as an elementary special education associate and taught adult tailoring classes.
On May 30, 1954, she married Norman W. Jones in Oelwein.
Katherine was a member of Zion in West Union, P.E.O. Chapter DB, West Union Library Board, formerly on Palmer Hospital Auxiliary, W.U. Good Samaritan Board and Wednesday Art Club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and spending time with family.
Katherine is survived by her husband of 56 years, Norman; daughters, Deborah (David) Lutyen of Canton, Ohio, Kathleen (Wayne) Abrahamson of Boone, and Nancy (Claude Brinson) of Omaha, Neb.; grandsons, Vincent and Craig Abrahamson; brother, Roger Smith; and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Howard Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Endowment or West Union Community Library.
The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
