Jones, Geraldine 'Geri'
Geraldine “Geri” Jones, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Mercy Nursing Honor Guard present. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Tom and his wife, Patricia Jones of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Katherine Jones of Cedar Rapids; and several nephews.
Geri was born Dec. 16, 1924, at home in Lafayette, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Ina (Johnson) Etzel. She attended the Cadet Nursing Corps and graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing. Geri was a registered nurse at Mercy Medical Center for 45 years. On June 3, 1949, she married Thomas J. Jones III, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. For many years, she was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant granddaughter, Sarah Jones; brother, Harold Etzel; and sister, Esther Brown.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Mercy, the Salvation Army or Yahweh Shalom, 688 Apache Point Dr., Climax Springs, MO 65324.
