Jones, Edmund 'Sunk'
Edmund “Sunk” Jones, 86, of Ely, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Shueyville United Methodist Church in Shueyville. Burial will follow in Rogers Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Edmund was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Williamsburg, Iowa, to Ed and Polly (Lewis) Jones. He graduated from Ely High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Sunk married Ellen Klinsky on June 18, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ely. Sunk farmed for over 40 years around Ely. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Ely Fire Department.
He was a member of the Ely American Legion, Cedar Rapids VFW Post 788, the Shueyville United Methodist Church and the Ely Odd Fellows.
Ed is survived by his wife, Ellen; a daughter; Becky Showalter (Fred) of Ely, two sons, Wayne (Holli) of Buffalo, Wyo., and Larry of Wake Forest, N.C.; grandchildren, Allison Schnoor (Jed), Charles Showalter, Krystal Jones, Kelli Jones and Amanda Jones; a great-granddaughter, Emily Schnoor; and three sisters, Margaret Hiscock, Elizabeth Rice and Mary Martin (Robert).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Bob Jones.
The family would like to thank Dr. Melanie Stahlberg and her staff for years of tender care and love for Sunk. Also thanks to Mercy Hospice for their compassionate care.
