Jones, Donald H.
Donald H. Jones, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, in his home. A funeral service celebrating Donald's life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with Chaplain Jeremy Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Survivors include his sons, Donald (Catherine) Jones and Greg Jones, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Kim, Ryan, Amy, Karie, Tim, Patrick, and Kevin; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gennie in 2005; son, David in 1979; a sister and two brothers.
Donald Henry Jones was born June 27, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Clara (Rummels) Jones. On June 2, 1945, he married Genevieve Harris in Lisbon, Iowa. Don drove trucks for Hawkeye Motor and then MidAmerican Trucking for 38 years, retiring in 1980.
Don and Gennie enjoyed fishing at their cabin on the Cedar River, going to the casino in Tama and playing bingo, and was a member of the Local Teamsters union, Cedar Rapids, for many years. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed.
