Jones, Bruce F.
Bruce F. Jones, 59, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held noon Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial, with military honors, will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
Bruce Franklin Jones was born May 25, 1953, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Stuart and Virginia (Caven) Jones. He attended schools in Marengo, graduating from Iowa Valley High School in 1971. During Vietnam he served his country in the United States Army. On Jan. 13, 1979, (a blizzard hit) Bruce married Diane Furler in Marengo. Bruce and his family has lived in the Iowa City/Coralville area for the past 28 years. He was employed by the City of Iowa City as a lab technician for over 28 years.
Bruce was a member of the American Legion. His favorite pastime was watching NHRA Drag Racing, especially his favorite driver, Don Force, and he was also known to watch a lot of sports on TV!
His family includes his wife, Diane; daughter, Tracy Jones of Iowa City; brothers, Bob Jones (Sue) of Hiawatha and Tom Jones (Susie) of Texas; sister, Judy Uchytil (Dean) of Belle Plaine; half sister, Delores Valdez (John) of West Des Moines; his mother-in-law, Lauretta Furler of Marengo; and numerous other family members and friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian F. Jones; and his sister, Kathy Breya.
A memorial fund has been established in Bruce's memory.
